Date: July 1, 2010

Warner Bros. announced today that Catherine Hardwicke’s RED RIDING HOOD has switched to a brand new date in Spring 2011.

Previously slated to come out April 22, the film about a young woman (Amanda Seyfried) terrorized by a werewolf in a medieval village has moved up to March 11, 2011. This may be due to keep the genre film out of the way of SCREAM 4, which hits just a week previous on April 15, but it’s now pitted directly against Jonathan Liebesman’s BATTLE: LOS ANGELES and releases just a week before another teen supernatural swooner, BEASTLY. RED RIDING HOOD was written by ORPHAN screenwriter David Leslie Johnson and also stars DEADGIRL’S Shiloh Fernandez, Max Irons, Julie Christie, Lukas Haas and Gary Oldman.

Original “Twilight” director Catherine Hardwicke’s latest film, the supernatural thriller “Red Riding Hood” will star Amanda Seyfried as the titular character, a young girl with a penchant for red hoods who lives in a medieval village that is currently being haunted by a werewolf. Luckily for our spunky girl, she falls for an orphaned woodcutter against her family’s wishes, but they’ll change their tune soon enough when that ax of his comes in handy during various wolf attacks.

Hardwicke is directing from a script by “Orphan’s” David Leslie Johnson, and the film (originally called “The Girl with the Red Riding Hood”) co-stars Shiloh Fernandez, Julie Christie and and the always great Gary Oldman.

Now you can add Lukas Haas to the cast; he will be playing the village priest. Haas can currently be seen in Christopher Nolan’s “Inception”, and you may remember him as the kid actor from “Witness” with Harrison Ford way, way back in the day.

“Red Riding Hood” is set for a April 22, 2011 release.
