L. James’ bestselling erotic “Twilight” fanfiction novel, “Fifty Shades of Grey,” is getting a movie. It may seem like strange origins for a feature-length film, but it’s really happening. And there are some big names being tossed around for the role of Anastasia Steele, a “pale, brown haired girl with blue eyes too big for her face” who agrees to trade her innocence for an explicit relationship with a troubled man. We asked the public who should get the role.

Amanda Seyfried – 33%
“Mean Girls” star Amanda Seyfried isn’t on the short list, but two-thirds of respondents think she’d be perfect for the role. She’s got those big blue eyes, that corruptible innocence, she’s even got the brown hair on occasion. One commenter wrote, “Seyfried has this intensity that would be great.” Another, “She’s sexy in an innocent way, so I can dig it.”

Alexis Bledel – 13%
Another big-eyed candidate overflowing with innocence, “Gilmore Girls” star Alexis Bledel took a close second over Kristen Stewart. A fan wrote, “Amanda Seyfried has that innocent sexy thing going for her but she’s too curvy and womanly for a role like this. The character is a girl exploring her sexuality.” And Bledel has never been in a role like this before, which would only add to the effect.

Kristen Stewart – 13%
Stewart is kind of the odd one out here, but there’s a good reason she took third place. Essentially, “Fifty Shades of Grey” was inspired by Bella Swan, her character from “Twilight.” It wasn’t necessarily based on Stewart’s performance, or even the character, but it did technically begin as fanfiction, and Ana was actually named Bella in the original version. Why not?

I really hope Amanda gets this role and if Alexander Skarsgard plays Christian it’d be a fantastic match!

Lindsay Lohan, Anna Faris, Olivia Wilde and Kate Hudson were all interested in the role at various times but all either pulled out, concerned about the nudity and brutality, or were dropped, leading to whispers that the project was cursed.

Some agents reportedly wouldn’t even show the scripts to their clients for fear they would accept the role and it would damage their careers.

But Amanda Seyfried, the perky American blonde who found fame as the star-struck Sophie in the film version of Mamma Mia!, has gone where others feared to tread: for three months she filmed Lovelace, immersing herself totally in the tragically troubled life of the actress who became the world’s first erotic superstar after famously starring in Deep Throat, the 1972 hardcore porn film that broke box-office records and became a cultural sensation.

When I talked with 26-year-old Seyfried a week after she wrapped her final scene, she was still recovering from her walk on the dark side and was, she says, “detoxing”. Talk of a curse doesn’t bother her, although she says: “I’m in a daze. It’s weird. It was a really challenging role and I don’t know how it’s going to go for me. It’s the first time I’ve ever had to play a real-life character and I took the experience home with me every night. It’s a really troubled story and I’m still getting over it.”

She is wearing a grey leather jacket and her shoulder-length hair is back to its natural blonde after going dark for the film. With her cherubic smile, Seyfried is not the first actress who springs to mind to portray Linda Lovelace, who lived a life of abuse and trauma. The porn star claimed in one of her autobiographies that her marriage to Chuck Traynor had been plagued by violence, rape, forced prostitution and private pornography. Following Deep Throat, she made two more movies and then denounced her pornography career, claiming she had been forced into it by Traynor (portrayed in the movie by Peter Sarsgaard) and for a while became a spokeswoman for the anti-pornography movement. She died, aged 53, in 2002 from car crash injuries.

Lovelace also features Adam Brody as Lovelace’s Deep Throat co-star Harry Reems, Sarah Jessica Parker as Gloria Steinem and James Franco as Hugh Hefner. To prepare for her role, Seyfried read Lovelace’s autobiographies, watched her movies and talked to people in the pornography industry.

“It’s a huge responsibility to be the voice of somebody else, and it was very difficult because what she had to go through was so dark,” she says. “She was physically, verbally and sexually abused and it made for a very strange dynamic between her and her husband, who was also her captor. Her life was ruined by what happened to her.

“There was so much material available to me, which made it less daunting, but it’s definitely the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do.”

Amanda Seyfried’s career has been on a sharp upward curve ever since Mamma Mia! She has a thriller, Gone, due out shortly, in which she plays a girl who sets out to find the serial killer who has kidnapped her sister; and next month she goes to New Orleans to join up with Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe for the film version of Les Misérables, in which she plays Cosette.

“I was playing Cosette in recitals when I was 15, because I used to sing classical music, and now I’m actually going to play her – it’s a dream for me,” she says. “Getting back into singing has been tough, but awesome, too, because I haven’t lost what I had when I was 15; it’s only got better, so that’s a plus.

“It’s so different going from Linda Lovelace, a porn-star-turned-feminist with a New York accent, to an 18-year-old Englishwoman – well, French actually, but I’ll be doing an English accent – so it’s going to be hard.”

After Mamma Mia!, Seyfried became deeply involved with her British co-star Dominic Cooper. He ended his 12-year relationship with girlfriend Joanna Carocan and she broke up with actor Micah Alberti so they could be together.

But their romance foundered after two years. “I got my heart broken pretty hard,” she says. “It changes you a little bit every time you either break someone’s heart or get your heart broken.”

Seyfried began her acting career at the age of nine in her home town of Allentown, Pennsylvania, and modelled from the age of 11 until she was 17, at the same time taking voice lessons, studying opera and training with a Broadway coach.

The following year she moved to Los Angeles and landed a recurring role in the soap opera All My Children and then made her movie debut in Mean Girls alongside Lindsay Lohan. When she is not on location, she lives in West Hollywood in a house she shares with her older sister Jennifer, a rock musician.

“It’s nice to have her around,” says Amanda. “I’ve gone all over the world and got to travel and do these extraordinary things, but I’m still coming home to my sister and her cat and my dog every day.”

Another film about Linda Lovelace, called Inferno, is about to go into production with Malin Akerman as Lovelace and Matt Dillon as Traynor, so she knows that the success or failure of Lovelace lies with her performance.

“The responsibility is huge, but I feel this is the beginning of something else and a new direction for me,” she says.

‘Gone’ opens on April 20. ‘Lovelace’ is out later this year

Gone is a psychological thriller that will keep you guessing all the way through. There is a thin line separating the good guys from the bad guys, leaving Jill to fight this battle entirely alone. Amanda Seyfried is spot-on as our troubled heroine, a perfect blend of terrified angst and kick-butt courage. Those big eyes of hers reveal her deep wounds and overworked nerves, making you root for her even when her story seems to unravel. Of course, I won’t give the ending away, but I can say it will make you remember to lock your front door tonight. And check the window locks, too.

Bottom line: Gone is a well-acted, guessing-game of a thriller, making for a mostly satisfying movie.

Despite a few struggles in wrapping these 94 minutes up, Gone will not dissipate from your mind once you leave the theater. Now the majority of it will probably not be lingering by the time you wake-up the next day either. With that being said, Amanda Seyfried just might hang around longer than expected.

The girl is just so cool. Sure that’s not a very analytical statement, but she’s just an actress that seems to have it. Her only flaw thus far in her young career is that she occasionally picks a piss-poor script every now and then (Hello Red Riding Hood). Yet her performance here solidifies what yours truly has been blasting out there for the last couple years: she has the charismatic ability to carry a movie.

Seyfried, who showcased some of her vocals in 2008′s “Mamma Mia!” said the key to training for a musical movie is to not rest one’s voice, but rather to never stop singing.

“You just continue to train your voice,” she told CNN. “You go to the doctor a lot and you stay away from dairy. That’s all I can do right now. I know all my songs like the back of my hand.”

The audition process was four months long, and thankfully the 26-year-old enjoys belting out songs as much as she enjoys acting.

“It’s really a lot to sing but it’s so fun. It’s like, my favorite thing to do. I think this movie’s going to be quite an experience.”

Seyfried said she’s currently in rehearsals for “Les Mis,” now that she’s wrapped her starring role in the Linda Lovelace biopic, “Lovelace.”

The movie, about the pornographic film actress, is expected to debut this year, although it will arrive at the theater with a last minute casting change.

Seyfried’s former co-star, Demi Moore, had to drop out of the film last month. Instead, Sarah Jessica Parker jumped on board to play Moore’s vacated part of Gloria Steinem.

“I was really bummed,” Seyfried said of Moore’s exit. “We were all really bummed. She worked so hard and she was the perfect Gloria. Things just don’t work out the way you want them to, but then it’s hard to wish for someone’s well being but substitute them.”

We just got word that the Mamma Mia! starlet is stripping way down for her role as famed Deep Throat porn star Linda Lovelace in the upcoming biopic Lovelace.

“It’s going to be very risqué,” Patrick Muldoon, a producer at the Lovelace production company Eclectic Pictures, told us at Audi and Martin Katz’s 2012 Pre-Golden Globes party at Cecconi’s in West Hollywood.

But don’t go thinking this is some sort of porn disguised as an indie flick.

“It’s a new thing for her, but it’s not about nudity,” he said. “It’s profound, the performance that she’s giving…She’s doing such an amazing job. We’re about two weeks into filming, and the movie’s going to be incredible.

“Thematically, it’s talking about how abusive the porn industry was to Linda Lovelace,” he said. “Yes, there’s a lot of nudity, but it’s a message movie about respecting women.”

It was recently announced that Demi Moore will be joining the film to play feminist icon Gloria Steinem. Lovelace will also star Peter Sarsgaard, Sharon Stone and James Franco.

(Editor’s Note: In the original version of this story, Muldoon identified himself as a producer of Lovelace. We have since learned that he is a producer with the movie’s production company Eclectic Pictures, but he is not currently producing Lovelace.)

It isn’t known if either Amanda Seyfried or Taylor Swift will accept their offers yet. Anne Hathaway also stars in Les Miserables as Fatine, while Eddie Redmayne plays Marius.

Tom Hooper is directing Les Miserables from a screenplay by William Nicholson, which is adapted from the Victor Hugo novel. The story centers on Jean Valjean, a 19th Century ex-convict who wants a fresh start at life, although he is constantly pursued by Inspector Valvert, who is convinced Valjean is up to no good.

It isn’t known when production will begin on Les Miserables.

Les Miserables comes to theaters in 2013 and stars Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Eddie Redmayne. The film is directed by Tom Hooper.
