How Amanda Seyfried and the director of ‘Twilight’ vamped up a fusty old fairy tale.
On a gloomy and wet California day, director Catherine Hardwicke curls up in her office on the Warner Bros. lot with a book in her hand. This isn’t your average bedtime story. It’s called Little Red Riding Hood Uncloaked: Sex, Morality, and the Evolution of a Fairy Tale. She only recently discovered it, and she flips through the pages like a schoolgirl hyped on caffeine. “Maybe you like ‘Red Riding Hood’ when you’re 5,” Hardwicke says. “When you’re 10, you start latching on to it for another reason—why did she get in bed with the wolf?” Hardwicke even compares the beast to a love interest. “It represents a dark animal nature which is close to sexuality. In the traditional story, the wolf cross-dresses and lures her into bed. That’s pretty kinky right there! The wolf is the original tranny. What a kinky wolf!” Her entire face lights up. “A granny tranny!”
The kinky wolf is no match for Hardwicke herself, who wears sexy leather boots and once gave a member of her crew a dominatrix costume as a present. Not to worry, Mom and Dad. Hardwicke’s kinkiness is decidedly PG-13. “It was a tasteful dominatrix,” she says. Hardwicke has a knack for taking the traditional girl-in-peril tale and teasing out sexual tension without crossing the line. She became the most commercially successful female director in Hollywood with Twilight, a film that radiates heat even though Edward and Bella never even get to second base. Now she’s heading to Grandmother’s house with Red Riding Hood, an adaptation of the fairy tale with a bodiced Amanda Seyfried. Julie Christie plays her bohemian grandmother.

Keep a look out for scans and captures soon to be added to our gallery.
It’s been a busy week for our darling Amanda. She’s been photographed out everywhere lately and yesterday (February 23) she was spotted waiting on her from Valet Parking in Beverly Hills.
Amanda was out shopping yesterday (February 22) in Los Angeles. She bought a huge Thai pillow and a yellow box? Seems to me she’s re-decorating her house before her appearances coming up in March!
Also, I added more images of Amanda at Coffee Commissary last Monday. So make sure you check those out!
As many of you already know Amanda is on the cover of Interview Magazine next month (March). I added some HQ outtakes in our gallery along with captures from the behind the scenes video.
JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE: Let’s talk about this new movie you’ve done, Red Riding Hood, which is a retelling or reimagining of Little Red Riding Hood. Obviously, everyone knows the story, but how did you guys approach it? As you were making that movie, did you feel like you were in a fairy tale? Or did you guys juxtapose the more playful aspects of the story with something a little more grounded?
AMANDA SEYFRIED: Well, aside from the major supernatural element to it, like the wolf speaking, it felt pretty grounded. [Timberlake laughs] We applied modern-day relationship dynamics to the story. It’s a thriller, it’s a whodunit, and it could have taken place during any period in history. But our version is set in medieval times, which were really romantic and gothic, so it’s a bit darker.
Amanda Seyfried will find returning to London “difficult”.
The ‘Red Riding Hood’ actress hasn’t been to the UK since splitting from boyfriend Dominic Cooper in May 2010 after three years together, and though she loves “easy” life in Britain, she is worried about visiting.
She said: “I haven’t been back to London since before we split. It’s tough. I need to get back. But it’s hard when your relationship starts there and then goes on for three years.
“It’ll be difficult to go back but I love it. Oh god, it just feels so easy to be there. You don’t have to watch yourself all the time.”
Amanda – who was most recently romantically linked to actor Ryan Phillippe – also revealed she no longer feels uncomfortable watching raunchy film footage of herself with her family because she knows she isn’t like that all the time.
She explained: “I can turn my sexuality on and off. It doesn’t exist in everyday situations. I don’t really think about it then, but there are certain situations where I will make myself be aware of it. Just to keep myself in check.”
This morning I added pictures of Amanda and her sister shopping at Whole Foods Sunday, February 20th, and I just added pictures of her out yesterday (February 21) with Finn at Coffee Commissary in West Hollywood. Enjoy!
